Commercial Solar

In Arizona, the utility companies are currently offering business customers three different reward programs designed to accommodate many type of systems and technology.  These programs offer two incentives each with separate payment methods.  One is a standard rebate and the second payment is a REC credit purchase produced by your system for a term of 20 years.

Performance

Is solar dependable?

As long as the sun continues to light the earth, yes.  As far as our solar modules, the panels come with a 25 manufacturer’s warranty, and we include a 20 year warranty for our inverters.

How long has solar been around?

Solar power has been used directly in various forms for over 100 years.  Solar panels as we know them today are relatively modern invention and they were available for sale sometime in the late 1960’s.

How are solar panels certified?

Based on California laws it has stated that qualifying PV panels must be certified to UL1703 and IEC61215 for crystalline panels including IEC61646 for thin film panels. To obtain UL certification, PV panels go through various tests to see how well they will perform after a prolonged exposure to weather elements and even extreme temperatures. These tests also gauge the sturdiness of the insulating materials and the performance of the wiring.  Solar panels with UL, TUV, and CEC certification will provide the peace of mind that your panels are safe and will give you decades of good reliable service. Solar panels certified can be found at Go Solar California organization maintained by the SB1 Eligibility Guidelines list:  http://www.energy.ca.gov/2008publications/CEC-300-2008-007/CEC-300-2008-007-CMF.PDF

Where are solar panels tested?

Arizona Public Service, Salt River Project, and Tucson Electric test all panels before they are allowed to be certified for CEC and TUV for Arizona customers.

How does solar technology work?

Photovoltaic is the process of converting sunlight directly into electricity using semiconducting material such as silicon “PV panel”.

What kind of maintenance does my pv system require?

These systems require little to no maintenance. There are no moving parts in a solar power system so there is nothing to go wrong. Basically, make sure the modules are clear of bird droppings and dirt and trees aren't shading the system. Also, make sure the system is putting out its proper power during the year by your inverter monitoring that we install on every installation. The monitoring program will indicate your systems performance and will also indicate any problems.

What if there is a storm, will it blow a panel off the roof?

Pre-engineered racks, mounting, and anchoring systems are engineered to withstand at least 120 mph.

Will cold weather affect my PV system?

Cold weather will not negatively affect the performance as there is plenty of energy.

Value

What is the value of solar?

The immediate return on value is every dollar of energy off set per year is multiplied by 20 as your additional property value protected from any future taxes.  Solar value is also generating real money as banks, appraisers, and the National Journal of Appraisers now recognizes its bank-ability.

Why is solar good for me?

Reducing electricity bills, protects from future inflation costs, improves the environment from carbon emitting technologies, and creates local jobs.

What is the return on my investment?

Property value immediately improves for every dollar of energy used by 20 per year, immediate utility rebates create incentives, federal ITC of 30% for additional incentives, Arizona State gives $1,000.00 in tax credit, property tax abatement, no sales tax in most cities, federal express depreciation of system, and protection from future inflation makes this a better place to park money than any other investment in world.

Installation

How do I know my roof is ok to install solar?

Solar panels themselves are surprisingly light weight. Solar panels distribute the weight evenly and under requirements for roof truss. Each roof mount is attached to the truss and our site assessment will take this into consideration with options discussed at time of our consultation.

What is the weight limit to install solar?

Systems structural engineering analysis shall not be required for flat plate collectors whose weight does not exceed 4.5 lbs per square foot and point loads do not exceed 40 lbs. If either amount exceeds these values a structural analysis will be required.

Can a specialty license install solar?

Specialty licenses are no longer accepted by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.

How long does the average installation take?

For a typical residential system it can take 3 to 5 days to install the PV panels including the additional equipment.  It can take additional 7 to 10 business days for the utility company to verify that the installation has passed all inspection to energize it to make to operational.  Business installs can take 7 business days depending on the size and complexity of the solar project.

Can I add panels to my solar system after the initial installation?

With our solar system install, it is built to be easily expanded with any type, any power, or any manufactured module with no degradation.  Additional inverters would be required.

What advantage is there to installing solar on a certain side of my roof?

Although south exposure is the best, a photovoltaic system needs full exposure to the sun’s rays for most of the day.  Shade will impact the performance of the solar panels.  Our site evaluations and recommendations will take these items into consideration.

Do I need permission from my HOA (Home Owners Association)?

If you belong to an HOA you need to get permission for the installation. In Arizona, HOA's cannot restrict solar energy devices and this is dictated by Arizona Revised Statute Section 33-439 which essentially prohibits any HOA from unduly restricting the installation of solar energy devices. If you encounter any problems with your HOA, please let us know and we can provide the documentation that will get positive results.

I have a tile roof, can I still install PV?

We can install PV on any type of roof, asphalt shingle, tile, metal and flat roofs. As long as the roof is in good condition otherwise we can assist with getting it repaired.

I am interested in purchasing a solar electric system here in Phoenix, how do I get started?

Please fill out our residential or business evaluation form and we will respond. We will analyze your current monthly electricity usage and bills, we will visit your home or business, determine structural requirements, and placement.  Give us a call at 623-806-8806 or email us at peptalk@pepsolar.com and we will spend some time with you and set up a energy analysis.

Company

Is PEP Solar a dependable company?

PEP began its solar journey in 1979 and the principle owners are from Phoenix Arizona.  PEP is dedicated to Pride, Excellence, and Performance with letters of accolades over the years.

How long has PEP Solar been in business?

Phoenix Energy Products™ was founded in 1978.  PEP re-launched its brand in February 2009  as PEP Solar.

How do companies get certification?

Companies must have either a K-11 or “DUAL” license, C-11 for commercial electric, or L-11 for residential electric.  Eventually the NABCEP newly adopted, National Association Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, will be the certification process for solar installs as the industry continues to build.

K -11 ELECTRICAL

This classification allows the scope of work permitted by the commercial L-11 Electrical and residential C-11 Electrical licenses.

C -11 ELECTRICAL

Installation and repair of electrical systems.

L -11 ELECTRICAL

Installation, alteration, and repair of any wiring, related electrical material and equipment used in the generating, transmitting, or utilization of electrical energy less than 600 volts, including all overhead electrical wiring on public right-of-ways for signs and street decorations, and all underground electrical distribution systems of less than 600 volts serving private properties. Installation, alteration, and repair on other than public right-of-ways of all outside, overhead, and underground electrical construction and all wiring in or on any building of less than 600 volts.
